When the quality or quantity of tears is not good -within a certain range- the organism reacts and, as a protective measure, tear secretion is stimulated. A circle begins: the eye perceives that it is dry and produces a little tear, but, as it is still deficient and does not solve the problem, it perceives again that it is dry and produces another little tear. So on and so forth until the capacity of the tear drainage system is exceeded and the eye cries.

For this reason, the use of artificial tears in patients with dry eye solves in most cases the problem of tearing, since the eye is well lubricated and the balance is restored.
