Does acupuncture work for glaucoma?

Acupuncture is another therapy that patients with glaucoma or ocular hypertension often ask about.

At present, acupuncture is not recommended to treat these pathologies, as it lacks scientific studies that support its efficacy.

Risks of pseudotherapies

However, it should be noted that not all of these therapies have followed the necessary steps and/or studies to be approved as effective treatments for glaucoma and ocular hypertension. Consequently, they cannot be recommended, not only because they have not completed these studies, but also because, since they have not, on many occasions, we do not know whether their use may be harmful to the patient at the ocular or systemic level.

Also, at this time, there is no practice in daily life that can directly affect intraocular pressure, with the exception of the use of corticosteroids, whose use could lead to ocular hypertension, as well as a type of glaucoma called coiticoinduced glaucoma.
