Artificial tears are the mainstay of Dry Eye treatment. These are compounds that mimic, as far as possible, the composition of tears. There are numerous artificial tears on the market. Your ophthalmologist will indicate the most appropriate for your case, although sometimes it is necessary to "try" several tears until you find the right one for you. You need to be consistent in your treatment and use the artificial tear as often as your ophthalmologist tells you. Artificial tears are harmless to your eye and do not cause dependency.
